Goodbye 2018

2018 was a good year!

We spent more time and did more things with the family than we have since we moved. We took time for fun, and time for us. We did things just for the heck of it.
We had some challenges and serious personal growth. I learned sometimes the best choice for you is the hardest one to make. And often things that seem horrible to go through, you look back on with gratitude for where you are now.
Sometimes you just have to set yourself down, reevaluate everything, and make a plan to get where you want to be. Sometimes the only thing stopping you- is you.
I made new years plans and goals. I am focused on achieving what I want next year. And I am excited for everything I have in the works.
Happy New Years.

This January we posted "We have learned that while it is important to put your responsibilities as a priority. It is also important to invest in yourself. You cant live every day because you have to. Sometimes you just have to put yourself first, and trust that every little thing will be alright in the end. So doing small things once in awhile just to make yourself happy is a Must. You should always have something to be excited about, and always looking forward."
And I think we did an awesome job of that in 2018.
Cheers to next year and all it may bring!

Merry Christmas 2018

Every Christmas morning we wake up to an early phone call "are you up yet? Come Skype us so we can open our gifts!" 😂
7 am on the dot, I roll out of bed to set up the computer and Michael and I sit on the couch sleepily watching them open their gifts.

I always post a Christmas video on our Youtube channel so watch out for that.
Our dogs get to open their Christmas presents right away. They don't like waiting for a picture either.
If you're wondering why only Wesley is in this picture and not Radar....

I am also obsessed with Christmas Cards and I hang them all on my fridge. So if you are ever wondering if you should send us one- if we would want one- the answer is YES!

Merry Christmas Everyone! We hope you have a wonderful holiday with the ones you love and this next year brings you great things.

My Parents 21st Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to my Parents 💕

They have been "together" since they were 15 years old. They got married in their 20s and have been together since. Even with everything they've been through over all this time they are still just as sweet and loving to each other as always. They set the perfect of example for what I wanted a marriage to be like. Love you both!

I always thought they had gotten married on Christmas Adam, but turns out they were actually married Christmas Eve. e

I am That Dog Mom

I wanted our Christmas cards to go out the First of December but I had to wait until Pet Photos with Santa so I could add them to our cards! 😂
So Here they are... 2018 Christmas Cards:

And they are the two cutest boys I've ever seen in their little Santa sweaters! 😍

24 Rotations around the Sun

Today marks my 24th year of survival. 😅
I had to work since I took Sunday-Wednesday off to go to Utah. So I spent all day at work with the animals. I already got my birthday gift last month (Black Friday) and I didn't have much to be excited about- everything after 21 is just downhill anyways. lol
When I called Micheal on my way home from work he said he had just gotten off and home and wanted to know what I was gonna make for dinner? Same stuff, different day haha.
When I opened the door to our apartment I was in shock!
When I left that morning my house was a WRECK. Between working nonstop all last week and packing last minute to leave for Utah my house was a nightmare. So messy I was afraid I would die during the drive and whomever had to clean out my place afterwards would be mortified. I was DREADING coming home and having to clean the kitchen and dishes. But Michael had gotten off work early and cleaned EVERYTHING for me. All the dishes, the kitchen, the house!
He had gotten me flowers, and a card, and a little stuffed schnauzer (Im obsessed)
Not only did he get me a card- He wrote me an entire letter inside it! 💕
He baked me a cake! Michael has never baked anything before in his life, but he got one of the cake mixes I had stashed away and it was baked and ready for me to come home.
AND he was in the process of cooking us dinner (Thank you Hello Fresh for step-by-step meal plans!) I did have to finish dinner though 😂 Blacked Penne is a bit complicated and after he attempted to dice a whole bell pepper and then panicked asked me how to get rid of all the seeds everywhere I stepped in.
I felt like I walked into a dream- I never imagined he could pull something like this off. I was totally unsuspecting! Usually I know if he is up to something. I told him I can't explain how amazing this gift is- but it is one of my favorite birthdays ever!
Acts of Service is one of my Love languages and the amount of thought and effort he put into just trying to make me happy makes me so unbelievably grateful that he is mine! 💕 Wether the house was perfect, or the cake was great, or the food tasty (and it all was!) The thought and effort that he put in is all anyone could ever ask for.
Take notes men- Michael just raised the bar!
He is #Goals

I'll be home for... my Birthday?

Somehow this time of year always sends me South.
Not Christmas, but my Birthday.
I was able to drive down to my Home town on Sunday (1st) and Stay through Tuesday (4th)
In 2016 the same thing- I had an impromptu trip home for my Birthday. Its funny how that new Facebook Memories shows you patterns in your life. lol
Anyways,
Every time we go home I drive past our old place. This was the first place Michael and I moved in together. It was where we spent the first 9 months of our marriage. And it holds a special place in my heart. So I am always creeping taking pictures as I drive by and reminisce.
I spent Monday waking up and getting ready with my sisters like we used to when I lived there and we do now every time we are all together. We pull the wall mirror out to the living room and to my fathers dismay we drag all of our makeup and products across the floor and just sit there doing our makeup forever and enjoying each others company. There is no better feeling than to be 100% your weird self and have the ones around you be just as weird and fun as you. Sisters really are your first and true best friends.
I don't think when my dad had 3 daughters he expected to be our Photographer lol But like the amazing supportive dad he is he took like 30 shots to get our "Insta Glam" worthy picture 😂 He commits and takes different shots at different angles to find "the one" lol.
We always joke that we are the country Kardashians. And we argue over which one of us is who from the show. But not a one of us sisters got a butt big enough for TV. lol
Also my mom is Adorable and I hope I get to be as cute as her one day!
My little brothers were looking like siblings of Shaggy from Scooby Doo so when I picked them up from school to hang out we went and go their hair professionally cut so they could look cute in Christmas pictures.
While we were down there I got to take some time to go visit my Best Friend Kesley. I LOVE just sitting in her cute house with her cute kids and just talking for hours. I miss the time we used to spend and our "Therapy Tuesdays". One thing I look forward to when we move back is just being able to spend more time with her.
Michael and I also got to go see his Brother Sterling and Becky and their kids. They were decorating Ginger bread houses when we arrived. I really miss hanging out at their house too. And I hope if we ever do get to move back they will live close also. Michael adores his nephews.
Tuesday Night we went and had Family dinner at the farm like my family does every Sunday. We were supposed to have cake as well but things got hectic. My Grandpa Perry's birthday is on the 6th & mine is the 7th. So its somewhat a tradition that we have cake together. Even when I was a kid and they lived in Blanding 6 hours away I remember going to visit them on my birthday and us having cake together. Grandpa would eat the cake and I would eat the frosting. lol
My family is #SquadGoals.

Pre- Christmas

Michael has a long standing tradition of opening his Christmas presents early- like REALLY early.
I like to be prepared and do all my Christmas shopping in November to get all this great sales. And also I am horrible about keeping secrets. So on the 16th (11/16/18) when I mentioned that I might already have Micheal's gift bought and hidden in the house he went on a quest to retrieve it. So at 10pm at night he began rummaging through our apartment and would not rest until he found it.

Here he is with his prize- the Series 4 Apple Watch. He has been begging for one since they came out with the cellular feature where he can leave his phone and still make and receive calls. It comes in handy when you have a job where you are on call 24/7 and pretty much glued to your phone.
Black Friday also fares well for me since my birthday is a little more than a week later. I have been considering getting an xbox just because I wanted to play this game since they announced they would be remaking it. So Michael went out and bought me an early birthday/Christmas present.
I also set my tree up super early this year. Usually I set it up on the First of December. But since we had company coming I wanted it to be up and decorated for our holiday dinner. So it went up 2 days before Thanksgiving. I am very particular that all my ornaments MUST be gold. No tacky mismatch or colorful decor or lights. Always gold- it was one of the first gifts after all. This year I added gold tipped pine cones.
So here we are. 1 days after Thanksgiving and Christmas has already come and gone for our household 😅 Now all we have to look forward to is the gifts we have gotten others and Skyping my family on Christmas Day.

Thanksgiving '18

This year we spent Thanksgiving in North Dakota again.
Michael's family was able to take some time and make the drive to come spend the Holiday with us.
We were very Thankful 😉 for the company.

They came up the night before, and were able to spend all Thursday & Friday with us. It was nice to have some time to just sit together and laugh and enjoy each others company. This year we bought a Turkey roaster. Up until a few months ago I thought it was just a "warmer" that kept the bird good while you waited or traveled to dinner. Turns out its like a giant crock pot that cooks the whole thing! I like to stuff the turkey with half a chopped onion, some garlic, and some chopped celery. Then we butter the whole thing inside and out. Season with salt & pepper, Paprika & Garlic salt. And then inject it all over with the seasoning, melted butter, and chicken broth. If you think you have injected it enough keep going until you know you may have over done it. lol. Then turn the bird breast down and fill the inside of the bird and bottom of the roaster pan with more chicken broth.
We also had mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, deviled eggs, sweet potatoes, rolls, & green bean casserole. Following with a full dessert of multiple pies. I wanted to make a lemon meringue pie, but somehow I forgot the lemons!? 😂
We finished the evening playing board games- A confusing version of Monopoly where we had a separate board and cards from 2 different versions and made up the rules as we went. And the pie in the Face game, which Michael said was a "pointless" game. But we all took turns until everyone was creamed.

We had a great time together and I am really glad they were willing and able to come all the way North to spend this time with us.

Fall Family Photos 2018

Every Fall I like to have our Family Pictures done so we have something cute to send out on our Christmas Cards.
I can plan 2 months ahead to schedule the pictures but I never seem to get the dogs groomed soon enough before hand that they are clean cut and cute.
They still make adorable scruff balls. But one of these days I will have all my ducks in a row and my Schnauzers will look like schnauzers with neat little hair cuts for picture day. But for the time being, enjoy their messy little hair day.
Here is a preview of some of my favorites from the shoot. One of my local friends, Tony Rowe, is a Photography Hobbyist and took these for us.
Michael says he hates wearing plaid shirts because he says it makes him "look 300 lbs!" but I wanted us to match and look Fall-Festive so I convinced him. He would much rather wear a T-shirt 😆So who knows- maybe next year we will compromise and he can finally pick what he wants to wear... prepare for matching gym shirts lol

Great Grandma Mortons Funeral

Molliedean Morton
JANUARY 9, 1929 ~ SEPTEMBER 20, 2018 (AGE 89)

Molliedean Stockton Morton, 89, returned to her Heavenly Father and was reunited with her beloved husband Bill Morton on Thursday, September 20, 2018.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many positions, including Relief Society, Primary, Cub Scouts and at the LDS cannery in Vernal. She and most of her family also served an Indian Mission in the Randlett Branch. She loved serving in the church and would help anyone who needed it, even when she was in need of help herself. For over 35 years she was a caregiver to different family members, including her grandmother, mother, brother-in-law and husband. She loved having her family around her and helping take care of her grandchildren. In her later life she became a voracious reader.

She was born in Pocatello, Idaho on January 9, 1929 to Ross and Mollie Roberts Stockton. She had one brother, Ralph Stockton. Because it was during the depression they lived in many different areas in the Northwest US, wherever her parents could get work. They finally settled in Las Vegas, Nevada where she attended her senior year of high school graduating from Las Vegas High in May 1947. On June 27, 1947 she married her eternal companion Bill Morton. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 63 years until his death in March of 2010. Together they raised 8 children and had a stillborn daughter. She is survived by her children: Jane (Don) Houghton, Vernal, Christine (Chuck) Johnson, Woodstock, Illinois, David (Diane) Morton, Vernal, John (Diane, JoAnn) Morton, Dutch John, Utah, Marsha (Tom) Perry, Vernal, Carol (Lee) Burns, Thermopolis, Wyoming, Shelly (Bob) Bodily, Vernal, and Valerie (Kevin) Merkley, Emmett, Idaho. Also 39 grandchildren and 104 great grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by her husband Bill Morton, her parents, her brother, 2 sons-in-law, Chuck Johnson and Don Houghton, daughter-in-law Diane Powell Morton and 2 great grandchildren, Tyler Kiever and Lucy Jane Houghton.

She loved making cookies and decorating them and for many years she made them and gave them away for Christmas and other occasions. Her childrens teachers would always receive a box of cookies for Christmas. She became known as the cookie lady. Her best known cookie was her beautifully decorated Santa Clause. She collected Cookie cutters and had over 500 different ones.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29 at 11:00 AM at the Vernal Utah Uintah Stake Center at 4080 South 2500 East. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at Blackburn and Sons Vernal Mortuary 15 East 100 North, Vernal and from 9:45 to 10:45 AM Saturday at the Stake Center. Interment in the Vernal Cemetery. Services are entrusted to the care of Vernal Blackburn and Sons Mortuary.

Grandma Morton passed away last Thursday after her health started to suddenly decline rapidly. We were told it would be a matter of days and things went down hill very fast.
A week prior she was at home and had been accidentally given too much anxiety medication and thought that she had been kidnapped and was being help captive in her home. She contacted the police and told them where she was, giving clear directions to the home. Her two daughters were suddenly surprised when the police came banging down the door late in the evening, prepared to handle a hostage situation. Only to find Grandma fast asleep in her room.

Grandma's house sat back off Highway 40 in the Davis area. We would all gather there for family reunions and have picnics on the front grass with our numerous extended family. Or when we would go to visit we would just sit around the kitchen table and tell stories. Everything always stayed the same in Grandma's house, no matter how much time past. Every old chair was in the same place, every piece of furniture the same position as it was when they moved in. She had these cookie tins everywhere that were always filled with sewing items- never cookies. However she had glass jars on the cabinets that almost aways had cookies or candies in them.

This last April she mailed Michael a birthday card. Which I found a sweet reminder that she not only approves of him, but even with so many grandchildren and great grandchildren of her own she cares about even her extended children in law.

When I was born Grandma Mortons mother Great, Great Grandma Grandma Stockton was alive and with myself, my mother, and My Grandma Perry we were part of 5 living generations.
I was not aware until after her passing that Grandma did not have Any Great, Great Grandchildren. If Michael and I had had a child it would have been her first Great Great Grandchild and a living 5th generation.
This was a bitter moment discovering that if we had not miscarried 2 years ago this would have been something we could have been part of. So the 5 living generations is gone with her now... there is very little chance that we will ever have 5 of us together again, especially with the postpone Michael and I have on having children.

Here is a picture at my wedding with Grandma Morton standing directly on my right. Great Grandpa Perry is standing behind her. We lost him a year ago.

Luckily Michael and I were able to take some time off work and travel down to be present at the Funeral. And even though we didn't have long to stay in town we were able to take a couple days and see all our family. Including my Grandma and Grandpa Perry (Pictured far right) as my Grandpa had just been released from the hospital following an intense surgery.

It was good to see everyone again. I wish we had had just a little more time to walk through Grandma's house one last time before it was packed up and gone forever. I hate that when we lose someone we are so quick to pack up and clean out their things. I feel there should be a mourning period where we could all just sit there and remember what it was like growing up and going to Grandma's house. Before it is all gone forever and you can never go back.

Why I HATE Ashley Creek Apartments (Our Lawsuit)

Our ordeal is finally coming to an end, and because there is nothing more that can be done, I just wanted to put this out there and warn other people.

Once upon a time, in the year 2014...

My husband signed a 6 month lease with his cousin at Ashley Creek Village Apartments.
The lease was May-Oct 2014 for $960 per month.
Michael found that after the first month, his roommate (who shall remain unnamed) repeatedly came up short for his half of the rent. So Michael was paying the full amount of rent most months himself. Which he wasn't getting reimbursed for. After the second time, Mike refused to pay his roommates half, and only paid his. Come August they were still half a months behind from July, and were starting to get eviction notices. Michael still payed his half, but refused to "lend" money he would never get back to the roommate.
In September Michael told his roommate that he still owed him over $1,000 in "borrowed" money from him covering both halves of the rent. Mike told him he would not be paying rent this month because he wanted to use his money to buy an engagement ring, and said roommate would be responsible for the entire months rent to pay back his loan.
So 2 weeks later, a notice comes that rent has still not been paid. Mike decides he is going to move out since the lease is up in a couple weeks and he feels that he paid his fair share of rent. We go and collect his things while the roommate is gone.

**Side note. Because they BOTH signed the lease they are both equally responsible for the Full amount of rent due here. We realized that Michael could be accountable for the unpaid dues during the lease, but that is not the issue.

So Michael tells the office he is vacating the property, as the roommate has failed to pay up and they have an eviction notice. She says "ok" but does not inform him he needed to sign anything, or that there were further needs from the office. It was his first apartment, he didn't know that wasn't enough.

Around the end of December we hear from a family member that said roommate had still not vacated the property, or paid rent. And an officer would be forcibly removing him from the property soon. We didn't worry too much because we never heard anything from the office (and they still had all of our contact information) And the lease Michael signed was only through October, so it wasn't his problem anymore- or so we thought...

We never heard anything more about this. The office never once tried to contact us. No one called us. So we put it behind us.

In January of 2016 we received an email from the company Michael worked from informing us that starting on his next paycheck the court had ordered a Garnishment of OVER $900 per month!
We called Everyone to figure out how this could have happened!?

So Apparently Roommate was served papers and notified that Michael and him had to show up to court. (We never heard a thing about it, nor were we served papers) He easily could have contacted us, but failed to let us know.
No one showed up on the court date, the roommate totally blew it off. So the garnishment was signed with no contest for the highest amount.

Said roommate claimed bankruptcy immediately following, and due to the context of the lease "Both parties are equally responsible in full" the entire collection amount came to us.

And apparently the lease is considered valid until ALL members leave the premises. So even though the lease was up in October, and Michael was not living there anymore, and they knew he wasn't there. He was still fully responsible for the rent while roommate refused to leave. AND he was fully responsible for the eviction costs, court costs, and collection fees!

So we were expecting to pay maybe $4,000 in unpaid rent, $1,000 in damages or fixer up expenses, and maybe like $2,000 in court costs. We were pissed, but that was fair because legally he did sign a lease.
So we anticipated a $7,000-$8,000 bill. This was going to be a hard hit for us, as we were living pay check to pay check before, but it was what had to be done.

But It Gets Worse...
The total amount due was $17,150.34
PLUS 10% annual interest until it was paid!?!

I asked them How 3-4 months unpaid rent and minor repairs could Ever amount to that much? Even with court fees and I was told "In the case of eviction or improper termination of the lease an additional fine of 300% is added to Each fee."
So they multiplied every fine and dollar we owed BY 3X!

I called the rental office Demanding to know why they wouldn't call us and try to work something out before they took us to court? -They didn't care to talk to me and told me it was out of their hands now.

I called the Vertex property Management company asking to speak to Anyone, owner, manager, ect. who I could explain the situation to and work something out. I said I understood I would owe around $8,000, maybe even half the total cost, but I shouldn't be charged the 300% penalty because I had No Idea we even owed them anything and it wasn't my fault!
They put me on hold, told me no one was in. Never responded to my emails. And downright ignored me.

I emailed the following to Ashley Creek Apartments, Every Property Manager at Vertex Property Management company, and the Owner & management of Ashley Creek Apartments. Out of everyone who I sent it to, no-one responded.
(The email says $18,000 because we had already incurred interest at that point. And I was wrong about the 2X fee, it was actually 3X but it took awhile for me to get the official paperwork from the law office sent to me.)

I called lawyers and spent $$$ trying to find a violation in how they never served us papers, we were never contacted or notified, The lease term ended in October, Mike had told them he was leaving... ect. And they said there was nothing that could be done because of the context of the lease.

So here we are... Month #19 of paying a garnishment that we didn't deserve. Still waiting on an email back from a company who pretty much told us to "Get Screwed" because they couldn't care less as long as they were squeezing every possible cent from the situation.

I just wanted to put this out there so Everyone knows;

First how dangerous it is to sign a lease with someone. You can really get ripped off.

Secondly, how Ashley Creek Apartments will rip you off in any way possible just to make the most they possibly can. They wont contact you, they will just send you to court. Its more profitable for them that way.

Third, what a horrible company Vertex property Management is! (Look at their google rating) Even if they couldn't/wouldn't work with me to settle the situation, they could have at least talked to me about it. I called on different days, at different times, and was told there was no-one available. They don't care. As long as they can squeeze money from you they are going to do it.

I hope Anyone who reads this will never rent from them. Be warned. These are not the kind of people you want to give business to.

I will forever be angry about this.
I just can't believe that they can fine and take SO much, and never even try to contact you or work things out. 300% Fees is Unbelievable.

Family Vacation Day #6- Water Park

We Planned on going to Rapid Waters in Mandan but when we got there the park was at Max capacity so they would only let us in 1 at a time as individuals left the park. So we decided to wait and check out the Rec Center water park in our home town.
Im glad we did because it was just as cool, with way less people.
The boys spent all day going up the stairs and down the slides. They tried each slide and took turns making each adult ride with them.
Im pretty sure Michael had more fun than all the kids put together. It was more fun, sun, and exercise than we had had in awhile.
I've always known I was pale, but looking back at the pictures and videos of this day I was literally the Whitest person in the pool. I was always chasing down everyone to reapply sunscreen like a crazy person, and Im pretty sure I was the only one who managed to get a sunburn. I forgot to reapply sunscreen to myself and burned my legs pretty painfully. However as the burn wore off I was still not left with a tan.

Today was also my moms birthday! I was so excited to get to spend it with her. I made her a cake and everything. But after we got back from 5 hours at the pool we were all so tired, burned, and crazy looking we didn't take a picture with the cake. Im glad she got to spend it with us though.

Family Vacation Day #5- Trampoline Madness

Today I took the family to the Pet Shop I used to work at, and they got to meet my boss and old coworkers and see what my job was like.

Harley holding Harley the Python.

After our Purr-fect Pet Shop Stop we headed to one of my absolute favorite places in Minot- Oak Park.
There are always herds of Geese at this park, so I bet Dylan if he caught one I would give him $20. He tried but no luck. Made for an entertaining video though.
After our lunch in the park we had planned to Drive up the in International Peace Gardens. But Michael and my Dad were both not feeling up to 4 hours of driving and it was too hot to realy enjoy walking around the Gardens so we just hung out for awhile and then went to the High Air Ground Trampoline Park.

When we first got to the Trampoline Park we figured that we would get the kids tickets, and then us adults would sit in the massage chairs and hang out with they burned off all their energy.
However once we got the tickets and got into the park we all quickly decided that we had to get in on the fun as well. So we went out and got tickets for the rest of us adults who wanted to jump and had an hour of absolute insanity.

Who knew 1 hour running and jumping on Trampolines would be such an intense work out. We all came out drenched in sweat. But we had a blast.
Afterwards we got to play the Worlds Largest Miss PacMan game.

Mom was not following the rules that stated not to jump across the trampolines and she hit her foot on the safety mat and got a pretty nasty bruise on her ankle. Nothing broke but she was limping the rest of the trip.

Check out all the fun in the videos below.
